Held on May 5–6, 2025 at the Prosserman JCC in Toronto, Pushing the Boundaries brought together self-advocates, service providers, researchers, caregivers, and community leaders from across Canada. Hosted by Reena, the conference sparked inspiring conversations around inclusion in Jewish and broader communities, and covered areas such as housing, education, employment, caregiving, and mental health. Across two transformative days, participants engaged in engaging keynotes, hands-on workshops, and dynamic discussions that advanced the national dialogue on accessibility and belonging. As part of the event, the world-renowned Montreal Shira Choir’s director, Reverend Hazan Daniel Benlolo, performed an exclusive a cappella set with his nephew Joshua Benlolo, underscoring the power of inclusive arts. The Choir’s performance at Pushing the Boundaries beautifully embodied community, connection, and creativity through music. test

In collaboration with the National Music Therapy Institute, the Montreal Shira Choir has launched a new group music therapy program in 2025. Two small groups meet weekly for therapist-led sessions focused on well-being, self-expression, and connection through music. Activities include singing, percussion, and more, and no musical experience is needed. This initiative offers a unique opportunity for choir members to explore their creativity, build confidence, and engage in meaningful musical experiences.
Founded in 2019 by Reverend Hazan Daniel Benlolo, the Montreal Shira Choir has grown into a vibrant and inclusive community of over 30 neurodivergent individuals. In 2024, the Choir proudly achieved charitable status from the Canada Revenue Agency, marking a major milestone in its mission to bring hope, connection, and joy through music. Over the years, the Choir has touched lives across Montreal through heartfelt performances at schools, senior centers, and community events. More than just a choir, it has offered music and art therapy programs, professional studio opportunities, and mentorship, which provides each member a sense of belonging and purpose. With continued community support, the Montreal Shira Choir remains a powerful example of inclusion and empowerment through the arts.
