Music therapy is the intentional use of music by professionals with a specialised university-level training and musical, clinical and professional competencies. Music therapists rely on research-based knowledge to plan interventions to address cognitive, emotional, psychological, physical and social needs, working towards non-musical goals.
There is no need to know how to play music to be able to participate and benefit from music therapy: the only prerequisite is a love of music! Music therapy sessions include receptive and participative musical activities, with instruments that are easy to play and chosen according to the participant’s interests and ability.

In partnership with the National Music Therapy Institute, the Montreal Shira Choir proudly offers a Group Music Therapy Program designed to support the emotional, social, and personal growth of our members through the power of music.

Created as a non-for-profit organisation in 2016, the National Music Therapy Institute obtained its charitable status in 2018. It was founded by dedicated music therapists, educators and healthcare professionals who believe that music therapy and its many benefits should be more widely known, applied and available.
The mission of the Institute:
Raise awareness, educate & help understand music therapy and its benefits.
Facilitate access & support new initiatives, based on partnerships.
Founder and President Suzanne Caron shares her motivation:
"I started the Institute because I truly believe music therapy can make a difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities. More than ever, we should value its potential and rally together with healthcare and other professionals to deliver its benefits to more people."
If music moves your soul and you love to sing, the Montreal Shira Choir welcomes you! Our choir is a warm, inclusive, and supportive community where voices come together in harmony to spread joy and inspiration.
No matter your background or experience, if you have a passion for singing and a heart for community, we would love to have you join us. Come be part of something special—where every voice matters, and every note brings people closer together.
Sing with us and make a difference—one song at a time!
