Who we are and what we do
The Montreal Shira Choir is an inclusive group of singers living with disabilities, dedicated to celebrating the power of music to bring joy, inspire, and unite people of all ages and abilities. People with disabilities are often marginalized in society and denied opportunities to express their talents, pursue their passions, and realize their full potential. Our choir provides a supportive environment in which individuals with disabilities can discover and develop their love of music. It also serves as a vehicle for transforming feelings of isolation and low self-esteem into a sense of belonging, purpose, and accomplishment—while at the same time promoting social inclusion.
Disabled individuals are often on the receiving end of charity yet have few opportunities to experience the tremendous benefits of giving to others. The chance for our members to mentor, support, and inspire others—while developing the skills and confidence to participate in the performing arts—is a unique contribution to society that sends a powerful message. Our choir, with a big heart, continues to share the joy of performance in many different cities and continues to inspire thousands—both in person and through social media.

More than a choir, we are a community. Through music therapy, mentoring, and volunteer performances, we foster inclusion, nurture personal growth, and build meaningful connections between neurodivergent individuals and the broader community. Our members don’t just find their voices—they gain confidence, purpose, and a powerful sense of belonging.
